At Oyster Point Family Health Center we work hard to provide a "medical home" for our patients. Part of that mission is to make medical care accessible and convenient for our patients. This includes being available for the unexpected, urgent medical problems that are common for all of us. Our providers are trained to evaluate and treat urgent medical problems such as sprains, lacerations, injuries and other acute medical illnesses. In certain situations our trained staff will refer to the appropriate level of care outside of our office such as the emergency department or the appropriate medical or surgical specialist. When being evaluated in our office for an urgent medical problem, you can be assured that you will be seen by a qualified family practice provider who has access to your medical record to review and can arrange for any appropriate follow-up care that may be necessary.
Our office has extended hours so we are available for these urgent medical problems. We have Saturday office hours from 8:00 a.m. until noon and we participate in the After Hours Care Center that is open for our patients on Saturdays from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.. Access to the After Hours Care Center can be made by calling our regular office phone number during these hours. Our office also makes a significant effort to make available same day appointments so we are able to evaluate our patients who are in need of urgent medical care.
While local hospitals and “retail clinics” market their urgent care facilities to the community, we feel that our patients are best served by care at their own medical home. At Oyster Point we try our best to provide this service. Patients will be seen by a familiar staff and medical provider who has their medical record available to them. Our medical providers also have a unique advantage of asking for another partner’s opinion if needed. We work closely with specialists who may be needed to provide a team approach to your care. If follow-up care is needed it can be provided at our office with a record of your recent visit. We feel strongly that our patients’ urgent medical problems are best treated in our office. We believe there is a distinct advantage for our patients to be seen in their own family practice rather than the unfamiliar urgent care centers.
